Advocacy Made Easy:

The Queens Arts Council is partnering with Fractured Atlas on a project to improve access to affordable quality health insurance for artists in NY State. This isn't something that will happen overnight, of course, but together we're working hard to lay some of the groundwork.
The first step is to participate and be counted. That's where you come in. Please take a few minutes to let us know about your health insurance needs and experiences.

Human Services for Artists:

The Artists Access Program at Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn offers uninsured artists, musicians, dancers and art workers very affordable health care by paying as little as $15 for a physician visit, lab tests and X-Rays. Artists may exchange their talents in the hospital for credits towards healthcare. For each hour of approved art activity provided by an artist, 40 credits (equivalent to dollars for use within Woodhull to see a doctor or dentist) will be credited to your personal account. Each artist will be fee-scaled based on income and can use these credits to pay for his/her individual fee. Please call 877-244-5600 to speak directly with the program coordinator for more information.

One more little item....

Any of you politically motivated / poetic terrorists / arts action folks please email Austin Guest for more information about plans for a big day of actions to BREAK UP THE BANKS! on Saturday April 11th in NYC.
The event is being called by a coalition called A New Way Forward (ANWF) as part of a nationwide day of action.  As for practical plans, we're thinking of the day as a "people's bank holiday" involving two parallel sets of actions:

(1) a series of many small, decentralized, prankstery and artistic direct actions at ATMs across the city leading up to...
(2) a mass rally location tbd - see website for info.
Each of the actions is tailored toward a specific audience and group of participants and lends itself to a particular style of organizing.
